Schenectady- Lawrence Everett (Larry) Jackson, 70, of Schenectady, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Ellis Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and its complications. Larry left us to join that one special "Great Jazz Band"
Born in Miami, Florida, he was the son of the late Thomas V. Jackson, Sr. and Emily Lightbourne Jackson. The family moved to Troy, in 1945. Larry was educated in the Troy public school system. It was at Troy High School that Larry began playing the drums. Larry was well known in the area and beyond as a first-rate Jazz and R&B drummer having performed with a "Who's Who" of prominent musicians and artists. Larry retired from the New York State Department of Social Services in 1994 as a Senior Medicaid Claims Specialist.
In addition to his devoted wife and best friend of fifty years, Janet Williams Jackson and their loving children Terri Ann Jones of Guilderland and Eric Lawrence Jackson of Lithonia, GA, Larry will be mourned by three grandchildren, Kenneth Jones of Colonie, Kevin Williams and Amber Jackson both of Atlanta, GA; and one great-grandchild, Asia Williams. Larry will also be survived by aunt, Elnora Farmer of Troy, sister, Ernestine Coleman of Schenectady, three brothers; Fred Jackson of Brentwood,CA, Nathan Jackson of Hawaii and James Jackson of Guilderland as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 1:00 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Monday from 11am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Newcomerfamily.com.
