Scotia – Leo J. Heaney, 88, passed away Thursday February 3, 2011 at the Teresian House.
Leo was the devoted husband of Marion (Morris) Heaney who predeceased him in 1997 after 49 years of marriage. He was born in Schenectady the son of the late Allen and Helen (Durr) Heaney. Leo proudly served in the US Marine Corps with the 3rd Marine Division during WW II on the islands of Guadalcanal, Guam and Bougainville returning home a war hero. Leo worked for General Electric for 34 years retiring in 1982. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years, a member of the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus. After retiring from GE, he and his wife moved to Barefoot Bay, FL where he pursued his passion of golf for the next twenty-five years.
He is survived by his children: John Heaney, Anne (Joseph) Krahula, Marie Heaney Brooks and Dan (Lynda) Heaney, grandchildren: Mary Cener, Brian Heaney, Lisa Kyle, Kelly Hopmeier, Matthew Krahula, Nicole Brooks, Jamie Stegmann and Chelsea Jacobs, 7 great-grandchildren and two sisters Allene Low and Jean Sullivan. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his grandson Donald Brooks III.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 8:30am from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to St. Joseph's Church, Scotia where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment in St. Ann's Cemetery, Wells, NY in the Spring.
