Leo J. Savoie, Sr., 80, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2017. His family came to his bedside.
Born in the Bronx, Leo was the son of the late Leo and Isabel (DeFuso) Savoie. He was the devoted husband to Beverly A. (Parker) Savoie. Leo married his high school sweetheart on December 7, 1958. Together they were married 59 years. (Together 62 years).
Leo enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1954. He worked as a mechanic technician in the Division of Military and Naval Affairs for 25 years retiring in 1991. Leo retired from the New York Army National Guard with the rank of SFC/E-7 in 1991 with 38 years service.
Leo was a life-time member of the Iroquois Rod & Gun Club in Rotterdam and the Guan-Ho-Ha Fish & Game Club in Scotia
He enjoyed archery and deer hunting. He instructed kids at Guan-Ho-Ha to art of archery. He also admired classic cars and enjoyed attending the car shows.
Leo enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished his grandchildren.
He and his daughter Lynn were especially close.
Leo is survived by his wife Beverly Savoie, his children; Leo (Kristen) Savoie, Jr. and Lynn Savoie, his grandchildren; A.J. Savoie, Uriah Savoie and Easton Savoie. Also survived by his brother Thomas (Joni) Savoie. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road (Rt. 2) in Watervliet, with a service to follow at 12 noon.
Interment will follow the service in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
