Colonie, NY - Leona F. Mickel (Lee), age 82, passed away at home on March 9, 2021 with her cherished family at her side. Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years took a toll but she fought hard.
Born on February 15, 1939 in Ticonderoga, NY, she is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Riedlinger and Lila Mae Riedlinger (nee Smith), her beloved husband Ralph Mickel, her cherished grandson Christopher and her siblings - Jean, Loretta, Arlene, June and Bob.
She is the loving mother of Debra Olendorf (Scott) of Pattersonville, Lora Bernard of Colonie, Karen Mickel of Clifton Park, Ralph Mickel (Marche) of Colonie and Linda Mickel of Saratoga. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy; Jennifer Mickel, Stephanie Derikart, John David Mickel, Ashley Marino (Nick), Erica Mickel, Joey Greco, Adam Olendorf , Nick Phibbs and Zhijian Casilac. She also had great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her dog, Gizzy.
Anyone who knew Lee knew that she lived for her family, including her grand fur babies. Not only did she raise five children, she played a significant role in raising many of her grandchildren. A fierce defender of those she loved, this family was blessed with her loving heart. We're heartbroken she has left this earth but joyful that she is free of pain and has reunited with her husband and grandson as well as all her fur babies.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 12:00 pm at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Valatie, NY.
