In the early morning of April 17, 2024, Leonard D. Derocher Jr. of Berne NY, lost his long but valent struggle with cancer. Leonard faced his year-long illness with the same strength and courage he lived his life by. His positive, headstrong, and determined attitude enabled him to fight his illness with grace and dignity until the end.
Leonard, also known to everyone as Butch, was the proud owner of Hilltown Restoration, a business he and his wife truly enjoyed. Prior to his illness, Butch was employed at
SUNY Polytechnic Institute and spent many years at Momentive Performance, where he grew to love and cherish the many friends he referred to as "brothers".
Butch's true calling was his love for restoring old motorcycles, whereby spending countless hours in his garage bringing them back to life and proudly putting them on display. When not working in his garage, Butch could be found riding his own Harley or metal detecting searching for historical artifacts. Butch was also a proud member of the MPM Emergency Brigade.
Butch is predeceased by his parents Leonard and Edna May Derocher.
Butch leaves to mourn his faithful and dedicated wife of 42 years Patricia Derocher, his daughter Kearah Derocher of Berne and his son Leonard D. Derocher (Crystal) of Florida. He also leaves his adored grandchildren Christopher, Kaiden, Rylee, Harley, Makenzie and Christina, his sister Tammy Layton, brother Larry Derocher, and countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 10AM-12PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Family and friends are invited to share memories at 12PM.
Special appreciation is extended to his friends at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and Momentive Performance who continued to be there to support Butch throughout his illness.
At Butch's request, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
