DELMAR – Leonard B. Ditton, 84 passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Albany, Len was the eldest son of Robert B. and Marjorie C. Ditton.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Dale of 60 years and his middle brother, Robert Ditton, Len is survived by his daughter Holly Aiken (Donn), Heather and Haley Aiken, his granddaughters; David Ditton, his youngest brother. May he rest in Peace.
Len was a member of the first graduating class at Guilderland Central School District in 1955. He was in the National Guard from 1956 to 1964 and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Len worked for Hudson Valley Paper Co for 43 years in a wide variety of roles including creating and managing the company's inventory systems utilizing Fortran. He was active in the Jaycees and the Craftsman's Club for many years. After retiring from Hudson Valley Paper, he became a school bus driver for 16 years with the Bethlehem Central School District.
Leonard was a dedicated husband and very involved father in Holly's many activities. An avid bowler since 1967, he attained his highest average of 211 and two 300 games in 2003. Len and Dale enjoyed Round and Square Dancing. For many years they were involved in their parish's youth group and council to head family activities and created the Human Development committee. They were campers starting in 1974 with a pop-up trailer, ending with their home away from home in their 42' unit at Alpine Lake RV Resort as Seasonal Campers for 20 years enjoying fishing after dinner each night in their little metal boat with a motor.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. The memorial service will follow at Noon. Masks Required.
