COLONIE – Leonard J. Sasso, Sr., of Colonie, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's, surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Albany on June 20, 1930, he helped build Albany's South Mall and later worked for Altech Steel Corporation. Len enjoyed being outdoors in the fresh air doing yard work or taking long walks; but his most cherished times were always those spent with his children and grandchildren. Nothing lit up his face with a smile as much as a hug or kiss from them. Leonard is survived by his loving wife Lillian, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary in April; a son, Leonard J. Sasso, Jr. of Albany; three daughters, Karen Sasso of Schenectady, Deborah (Langenbach) Sasso of North Greenbush and Michelle (Cushin) Sasso and John Cushin of East Berne. He was the best Gramp and Poppy to Ryan and Cody Langenbach and Allie Cushin; beloved brother of John, Michael J., sister of Mary Burns, Jane Bendetti, Grace Thornton and the late Elizabeth Navarro, Pauline DiPietro and Angelo Sasso; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave). A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Leonard J. Sasso, Sr.
