Leonard M. Cummings

COLONIE, NY – Leonard M. Cummings, 70, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, under the care of hospice at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in West Springfield, MA, Len lived in Albany as a young man, until moving to Colonie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Len worked construction with Laborers Union Local 190. He was happiest working with the stone masons during the construction of the South Mall. Mr. Cummings retired in 1996 from the Albany County Highway Dept. Len was a life member of the Voorheesville Rod & Gun Club. His passion was landscaping and gardening. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, doing crossword puzzles and listening to WAMC public radio. Len is the beloved husband of over 50 years to Carol A. Cummings. He is the devoted father of Craig (Debra) Cummings and Colleen (Stephen) Schwarz. Len is the proud Poppy of Brighton Schwarz. He is the brother of Patty Schutz of Henderson, KY and the brother-in-law of Dennis Howe of Spring Hill, FL. Also surviving is his pal, canine granddaughter, Lacey and several nieces and nephews. Len was predeceased by his beloved brother, Richard Cummings and his brother-in-law, Niels Nielsen. Len's family would like to thank Dr. Geoffrey Serfilippi, Dora, and the wonderful staff at Pulmonary & Critical Care Services, Dr. Bruce Lyman and the staff at New York Oncology Hematology and the staff of Community Hospice of Albany.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
