Leonard Russo Jr., 74, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Lenny was born in Albany on August 7, 1949, the son of the late Alberta (Gourlay) and Leonard Russo.
Lenny was a graduate of Guilderland High School. Later, he worked with his father, helping build the Empire State Plaza. He was employed with the University of Albany for 34 years, where he helped feed the thousands of students that loved his burgers and pizza. His primary mode of transportation was his bicycle, which he used to navigate the city streets, where he made numerous friendships along the way. Following his retirement, he resided at Shaker Place Rehab & Nursing Home (formally Ann Lee), where he was treated with kindness and received the upmost care from the wonderful nurses, doctors, aids and security. Affectionately known as "the Mayor of Shaker Place," he could often be seen wheeling through the halls with his favorite music playing. He was head strong and a force to be reckoned with, and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his friendly and kind personality.
He is survived by his siblings, Patty, Tonie (Butch) Francis, Diane (Duke) Schneider, Joan, Elaine (Dave), Laurie (Adam Calka); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special longtime friends.
Services will be held privately at the request of the family.
