Monica Chan, 68, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Monica was the daughter of the late Leon and Marjorie Dickson, and she was the devoted wife to the late Owen Chan.
Monica worked at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY as a medical technologist for 30 years and enjoyed helping others before relocating to upstate New York after retirement to be closer to her family. She was an independent, hardworking, assertive, and caring woman. She was a talented cook and her gourmet meals were exquisite and unmatched. Monica was a true sports fan and you could find her watching baseball, football, or basketball. However, her favorite teams were the New York Yankees, the Giants, and the New York Knicks. She was also known for her collection of fine crystal, china, cookware, and cutlery. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Monica is survived by her children, Franklin(Sharon), Clean, Mortimer, Dexter (late Sherese), Jermyn, Wayne Chan (Chamaicka), and Melissa, grandchildren; Devon, Darryl, Elizabeth, Ciara, Dexter, Tyriq, Delexeyauna, Jah-Kari, Zyaziya, Makaya, Jahzara, Kianjah, Ifahtari, Jah-Majesty, Chris, Charissa Jermaine, Jordan, Maliyah, Sha-kim, Sarah, Jayden, Tobias, Jazlyn, Jade, Isis, Timel, Matthew; great grandchildren; Maurice, Zion, Lily, Iris, Saith, Skylar, Zane, Jah'si, Jalen; siblings, Randolph, Harold, Clinton, Eric, Leon (Sonna), Richard (Dicky), Gladys (Ann) Dickson-Damon, Elizabeth Dickson-Whitehead, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews.
Monica is predeceased by her son, Carl Chan (Debra); brother, Bryan Dickson, and sisters, Marlyn Gill and Emelda Dickson.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm. Interment will immediately follow the service at St. Joseph's Cemetery, located at 40 Middletown Road, Waterford, NY 12188.
