Schenectady- LeRoy E. Overbaugh, 87, passed away January 30, 2016 at Ellis Hospital. He was born to the late Edward and Hazel (Kelly) Overbaugh on February 29, 1928.
He attended Mont Pleasant High School and served in the US Army and Air Force. LeRoy worked for the Navy Depot and later retired from the Watervliet Arsenal. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157, where he was known as "Hockey Puck" and the VFW Post 1895. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and flying model airplanes.
LeRoy is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia Marx Overbaugh. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Audrey (Steve) Eckert of Tennessee, Gary Overbaugh of Esperance, Sandy (Harold) Olsmit, Lori (Mark Stiffen) Balko and Denise (Dwayne) Allen all of Schenectady. He was the Grandfather of Glenn and Kirk Eckert, Harold Olsmit, Jennifer (Jim) Hurd, Kalena (Danny Hernandez) Overbaugh, Marissa (Evan Williams) Balko, Andrew (Tracey Ramundo) Balko and Brianna Allen; great grandchildren: Kaylee Eckert, Harold Olsmit Jr., Hannah Olsmit, Jaden Hernandez, Ryan Ramundo and Alex Eckert.
He was the brother of Doris (Angelo) Cerniglia and Paul (Marion) Overbaugh. Brother in law of Mary Marx and the late James Marx, special uncle to Barbara (Michael) Naumoff and many other nieces , nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his canine baby Lucy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours and funeral service conducted on, Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 10:00-12:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow starting at 12:00pm. Interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VA or the Shriners Hospital. The family requests everyone to have a Hot Fudge Sundae in his honor of his 22nd leap year birthday on February 29th.
