VOORHEESVILLE - LeRoy (Roy) P. Vanderburgh, 98 3/4 years old, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of the late Harry and Mabel Vanderburgh. Roy was a performer and a musician. He played the piano and organ for silent movies in the 1920's and was a well known musician in the area. Roy taught piano, organ and the accordion for over 70 years. He was the organist at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for over 48 years, as well as a respected piano tuner for over 40 years. While residing at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Roy entertained the residents by playing early pop hits on the organ. Roy was the beloved husband of 73 years to the late Eleanor S. Davies Vanderburgh. He is the devoted father of Shirley Greene and her husband, Waldo and the late Ronald P. Vanderburgh. He is the cherished grandfather of Cindy (Glen) Curley, Sherrie West, Sue (Frank) Vitale, Beth (Jay) Blaufuss and Sally (Patrick) Morgan. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and Community Hospice of Albany for the care and support given to Roy during his illness.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours were held in Monday, February 5, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Northeast Association of the Blind, Our Lady of Mercy Life Center or Community Hospice of Albany in memory of LeRoy P. Vanderburgh.
