COLONIE – Lewis D. Cross, Sr. 77, passed away on Friday May 27, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Lewis was born on July 5, 1927 in Shelburne, VT to the late Charles and Julia Reynolds Cross.
Lewis served in the US Army during WWII attaining the rank of Private. He was a truck driver for 40 years, retiring from Ryerson Steel in Jersey City, NJ in 1985.
Lewis was a life member of the Fuller Road Fire Department, a 40 year member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 B.P.O.E. and a member of Teamsters Local 294. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and the outdoors.
Lewis is survived by his children, Linda L. (Bruce Sr.) Hilt of Florida, NY, Bonnie M. Bixby of Warner, NH, Cindy J. Cross of Schenectady, Lewis D. Cross, Jr. of Florida, NY, David A. (Kimberley) Cross of Latham and Tammy L. Cross of Colonie; a sister, Libby Desjardin of Winsted, CT; his grandchildren, James, Tracy, Stacy, Crystal, Ricky Jr., Damian and Jeremy and his great grandchildren, Cori and Nicholas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Lewis was predeceased by his wife, Florence R. Yokubait Cross, she died in 1985, his daughter, Sharon L. Cross, his grandson, Bruce Hilt Jr. and his siblings, Rita, Walter, Charles, Earl, James, Mary, Virginia, Larry and Ruth.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155 – south of Central Ave.). Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
