Lewis A. Thayer

WATERVLIET Lewis A. Thayer, 61, entered his Heavenly mansion on September 12, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 27, 1956, son of Leslie Eugene and Maryann (Hack) Thayer who survive. Lew was a gentleman. His quiet ways were punctuated with a great sense of humor. Lew was a faithful, loyal and loving husband, son, father and grandfather. Lew loved the outdoors and took every chance he had to hunt and fish, or camp, hike, kayak, snowshoe or ride bikes with his family. He was his family's biggest cheerleader and supported the various sports or hobbies they participated in. He was a proud graduate of Watervliet High School, class of 1975 and member of the wrestling team. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Bigelow in 1977-78. He did tours during the Cuban missile crisis, the Cold War, Ireland, Mediterranean. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Becky (Meuse) Thayer; his daughters, Jessica, Sarah Collen (Seth) and Emilee (Patrick Brunette), and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Lee, Lynda, Lori, Lois and Lisa; cousins and special friends. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 18, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga Cemetery.
