COLONIE – Lillian B. Newton, 88, was received into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 9, 2007.
Born in Texas on February 17, 1919 and a resident of Colonie for the past 44 years, Lillian was the daughter of the late Arch and Mattie Brown, and was predeceased by her loving husband, Perry. She was also predeceased be her siblings: Ruth Holt, Orville Brown and her twin brother, William Brown. She is the mother of Eldon (Carol) Newton of Bellingham, Wash., Charles (Patsy) Newton of Corpus Christi, TX, Joy (Edward) Healy of Colonie and Janice (Bill) Knapp of Knox. "Grammie", as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, has 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Lillian moved to Albany in 1963 with her husband Perry, a minister of the Church of Christ, to plant a new congregation. She faithfully served as a Christian until her death. Her love of children was shown in teaching Nursery Class for over 50 years. She became "Grammie" to several generations of families.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Albany Church of Christ, 30 Russell Rd., Albany (off of Sand Creek). Interment will follow at Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
