Heaven must be missing an Angel, because the Archangel has summoned Martha. She was born Linda Cynthia Dunn to Nancy Phelps and Joseph Dunn in Danvers Pen, St. Thomas, Jamaica. She received her formal education at the Prospect Primary School. Martha/Martie as she was affectionately called by those who knew and loved her, was the matriarch in her family.
She was very hard working and sometimes went to Kingston Market with Ms. Florence and friends. In those days, times were hard but she knew how to turn her hand and make fashion. She was determined to be the best mother to her children. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and baking. She loved to bake sweet potato pudding, toto and blue draws. No one could out bake her in Pen. Her bake goods were the best.
She worked at Careeras Tobacco Factory and the Ackee Plant where her best working partner was Dottie. Martha was very shy, compassionate, loving, generous and kind person with a megawatt smile. She migrated to Albany, NY in 2003 to join her son Errol and his family. Under her watchful eyes she lovingly cared for grandchild; E.J., Sean, Jayden, Faith; adopted granddaughter, Azariah, along with many more children. Her love for her children spilled over 2 more generations. Martha was cared for by her loving daughters-in-law, Barbara and Lois.
She loved the Lord and often went to the Ladies Retreat, which she enjoyed very much. On Sundays, sometimes both she and Ms. Horence would dance in the middle of the aisle, bringing their offering and praising the Lord together. On Saturday, March 3rd, she was surrounded by those who loved her and those she loved. She took her last breath on Sunday, March 4th to be with her Lord.
She left to mourn; Sons: Errol (Barbara) of Albany, NY; Ian (Beverly) of England; Scotty of Jamaica; Anthony (Lois) of Albany, NY; Daughters: Angie of Albany, NY; Joan of Jamaica; Mar of Jamaica; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (deceased); sister, Gal Dunn of Jamaica; cousin, Lorna of Jamaica; and grandniece, Maria of California.
The Bible says, "Sorrow is only for one night and joy cometh in the morning". The loss of a loved one hurts deeply and the pain becomes unbearable. Sleep on, beloved Linda and take your well-deserved rest. "Farewell, farewell we say" and with a heavy heart we let you go. She has left behind a host of relatives and friends in the USA, England, and Jamaica.
The family of Linda Cynthia Dunn wishes to express their deep appreciation and sincere thanks for all the acts of kindness show to them during their bereavement. Thanks to Bishop Timothy R. Scotton, and Pastor Fred Gilmore. Special thanks to the dedicated friends who unselfishly were able to help her get to her medical appointments over the years.
Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, March 17 at Church of God of Prophecy, 774 Madison Ave, Albany, NY. A Home Going Celebration will immediately follow at 4 pm. Repass to follow the service at Church of God of Prophecy.
