Linda A. Susman

October 11, 1940 — November 27, 2023

Linda Anne (Conti) Susman passed away at Albany Medical Center on November 27, 2023 at the age of 83. Linda was born to Angela and Harold Conti in 1940 in Syracuse, NY. Linda and her only brother, Hal, grew up in a large Italian Catholic family. As a young woman, Linda often accompanied her grandmother, who was from Italy, to church to hear masses in Latin. Linda and Hal spent much time with their grandparents. Linda learned how to cook and bake, from which her family and friends greatly benefited later in life. Linda played the piano and had a beautiful singing voice. When she was 12 years old, Linda wrote a song and made a record. Although the church tried to recruit Linda to become a nun, Linda declined. Linda graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1958. One of Linda's first jobs was as a keypunch operator at General Electric after high school. At a friend's wedding, Linda met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Susman. The couple wed in September of 1964 and had four children. As Bob was in the army, Linda and he were stationed in various states until Bob left the army for civilian life. The couple moved to Liverpool, NY, where Linda remained until 2015. After Bob and Linda were married, Linda quit her job to have and raise her children. She was a devout Catholic and she lived for her family. In addition to all of the Catholic family events, those years were full of holiday parties, scouting, sports, chorus recitals, art shows, and spending time at the family camp in the Adirondacks. Linda and Bob were committed to caring for their parents and making gatherings inclusive of the large, extended family. Like her father and brother, Linda also became a ham radio operator, N2FJY. Linda enjoyed Bob's support with this hobby. Bob passed away unexpectedly when Linda and he were only 45 years old. When her children were in their teens, Linda worked at an investment company and Mutual of NY. The job Linda loved the most, however, was working as a library aide/teaching assistant at LiverpoolElementary School. Linda loved being around the children. Though late in her career, Linda earned her associates degree just years before retiring from Liverpool Central School District. Linda was very social and had many friends throughout her life. She remained in contact with friends whom she met when she and Bob were young newlyweds and was a long-time penpal of a friend in New Zealand. Linda never missed the opportunity to send a card for birthdays, holidays, sympathy, special occasions, or simply for well wishes. After Linda retired, she moved to Albany, NY to be closer to her children. She continued to make new friends in her apartment complex. Linda wanted to be helpful to the people there and at St. Jude's Catholic Church, helping with communion. Linda is predeceased by her husband, Bob; her parents; her parents-in-law, Victor and Frances Susman; her brother, Hal; her sister-in-law, Nancy, and her son-in-law, George Dunbar. Linda is survived by her children, Victor Scott (Cassandra) Susman; Christine (Patrick) Venable; Deborah Dunbar, and John (Katrina) Susman; her grandchildren, Ryan (Nikki) Susman; Matthew Susman; Ian Susman; Quincy Venable; Sophia Venable; Hannah Dunbar; and Jack Susman; her great-grandchildren, Rourke Susman; Kairi Susman; Raylee Susman and Kayden Susman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
