Lloyd W. Hartling

April 11, 1939 — December 11, 2020

Lloyd W. Hartling passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital on December 11, 2020. Lloyd was born and raised in Albany, NY and is predeceased by his parents, George and Kitty Mae Hartling, his brother Morris Hartling and sister Eva (Hartling) Tubbs. The youngest of their four children, he is survived by his brother Arnold Hartling and his sister-in-law Shirley, beloved nieces Valerie (Hartling) DeLaCruz, Jyl (Hartling) Graves, Cynthia Hartling and his beloved nephew John Hartling.

A proud veteran, Lloyd joined the US Navy in 1957 and served as Yeoman 2nd Class until being honorably discharged in 1965, ending his tenure in Viet Nam. He was the recipient of several commendations and was cited particularly for his outstanding performance of duties and work ethic. He was awarded a Joint Service Commendation Medal for his exceptional meritorious achievement and leadership skills in his handling of secret, confidential and highly classified messages and correspondences published and distributed throughout the Pacific and Continental United States. He was glad to have seen many parts of the world during his service and particularly remembered his time in Morocco fondly. He was a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520.

After the Navy, Lloyd became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Albany, NY until retirement and often remarked about how he had watched families grow up along his route. A quiet gentleman with an unassuming demeanor and respect for others, he enjoyed yearly jaunts to Las Vegas with friends, his favorite restaurant The Gateway Diner, and spending holidays with family. He loved solving crossword puzzles and watching sports. Conversations with him were always pleasant with a touch of humor; he will be greatly missed.

Lloyd will be interred with military honors at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at 11am with a graveside service.
