Menands- on Friday July 11, 2008, Lloyd S. DeMaranville, Jr., 75, of Menands went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by his beloved wife and his adoring 8 children.
Lloyd was born in Albany on April 15, 1933 and was the beloved son of the late Lloyd and Grace DeMaranville Sr.. He grew up in Watervliet and graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany.
Lloyd served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a member of the 10th Cold Weather & Mountain Training Command, instructing mountain climbing and ski patrol tactics in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. After serving his country, he was employed by Kraft Foods in Albany for a number of years before joining Equitable Life Assurance Company. Upon his retirement from Equitable, he became CEO and President of Streck's Inc. in Watervliet.
Lloyd was an avid baseball player and fan. At the age of 17, he was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as pitcher for their Triple A Affiliate in Lincoln, NE. His professional baseball career was shortened by injury. He returned to Albany and played and managed in the Albany Twilight League as a record setting pitcher. He was awarded many trophies and honors for pitching records and his outstanding sportsmanship. Lloyd played softball on numerous teams. He was playing in the Clifton Park Senior League up until one month before his recent illness. He was an avid skier, bowler and runner. He finished the 1988 New York City Marathon in 3:50:25. He was a member of various bowling leagues, BeCee's Guzelle's running team, Menands American Legion Post, a social member of Schuyler Heights and Menands Fire Department and a 50 year member of Watervliet BPOE 1500. Lloyd was a huge Boston Red Sox fan.
He is the beloved husband of 49 years to Christine Streck DeMaranville; Adoring father of Christine Bennett (Ken) of Latham, Sylvia Nestler (Roy) of Latham, Lloyd (Chip) DeMaranville III of Lake George, Scott DeMaranville (Connie) of Queensbury, Holly Sharlow (Greg) of Menands, Kirsten "Missy" Clemenzi (David) of Loudonville, Shannon Frazier (Kevin) of Latham and Shaun DeMaranville of Clifton Park; Proud Grandfather of Christianna and Ciara Bennett, Paige, Cole and Eden Nestler; Nicholas, Lauren and Hannah Sharlow, Ava and David Clemenzi and Keeley and Preston Frazier. Lloyd is the loving brother of Lois (Tom) Randall of Scarborough, ME and the late Douglas DeMoranville. He is the brother in law of Patricia DeMoranville of Fredericksburg, VA and Emmy O'Brien of Colonie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lloyd is also survived by his dear friend and "son", Ylli Shkullaku and wife Behije and their family.
At the request of the family, services will be private. A memorial Mass and celebration of Lloyd's life will be held in the near future. A notice will follow soon.
