Lois A. Champine

July 10, 1936 — May 16, 2019

Troy- Lois A. Champine, age 82, passed away on May 16, 2019 at her residence surrounded by family.

She was born in Janesville, WI, the daughter of the late Helen E. and Dr. Curtis E. Linsley. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years Edward Champine in 1997 and her siblings, Diane Linsley (Fox), Richard Linsley and Lee Linsley.

Lois moved to California with her family in her early teens and attended Anoakia School for Girls in Arcadia, CA until her graduation in 1954. Here she developed her love for the arts and tennis, both remaining important parts of her life. After graduation, a random airplane flight introduced her to her future husband and the love of her life, Edward Wesley Champine, whom she married in 1955.

She was mostly a stay at home mom, but worked later in life for several years as a preschool teacher at Troy Kiddie Korral with her daughter Directress Cheryl. She also enjoyed volunteering at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. She filled her days creating beautiful floral and patchwork paintings and spending her time with family. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. To know Lois is to love her for her ability to listen and not form opinions. She was not only a mother and grandmother, but a friend as well. Her sense of humor was always enjoyable. She was known as the mother-in-law NOT from hell. Everyone loved her!

Lois was admired by friends and family for her relentless fight with throat and esophageal cancer three times since 1985. Complaining was minimal and she still always kept her priorities focused on her family. Lois was a rare individual who knew the true meaning of gratitude and served as a positive role model for all who knew her. Many thanks to all involved in her care, especially her main Rensselaer County Hospice nurses, Marsha and her associate Sandy for their kindness and sensitivity at a very bad moment. She was cared for like family and we are grateful for their kindness and expertise.

She is survived by her four children: Cindy Lee Champine (M. Dean Uchytil), Troy, Cheryl Anne Champine (Joseph Vinson), Troy, Brian Wesley Champine (Lisa Daigle), North Carolina and Eric Edward Champine, Troy; 13 grandchildren: Danica L. Mace (Rich Cheslofska), Brandon Mace (Katie Blais), Charla Mace (Kyle Ostrander), Sara A. Uchytil (Dave Arnold), Emily M. Uchytil (Michel Anderson), Aimee L. Uchytil, Holly Uchytil (Omar Perez), Aaron Uchytil (Kristyna Beattie), Nathan Uchytil (Lindsey Kent), Alyssa Champine (Christopher White), Megan Champine, Connor Champine and Austin Champine; 15 great grandchildren: Hannah and Jack Mace, Ryan, Christian, Aiden and Nora Arnold, Zachary, Emilia and Abigail Ostrander, Chloe Uchytil, Mya Sanchez, Max and Isaiah Perez, Liana and Cameron Cheslofska; and a brother, Larry Linsley.
