COLONIE, NY – Lois Clare (Kramer) Johnson, 66, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 12, 2009, as a result of complications of diabetes and heart disease.
Lois was born November 25, 1942 in Albany, NY. She was the daughter of Alfred F. Kramer and Lois M. (Hammann) Kramer, both of whom predeceased her. Lois was a 1960 Honor Society graduate of Colonie Central High School, and completed nearly four years of study at SUNY Albany. Before marriage, she worked at Albany Medical College's Microbiology Department. More recently, she worked at Condor Trading Corp., in Clifton Park, retiring at the end of 1997. During the 1980's and '90's, she built her ceramic craft into a business, traveling to the Altamont Fair and other fairs and craft shows. In recent years, she was an avid spoon collector.
Starting in the 1970's, Lois supported her three sons as a volunteer Scouter in the (now) Twin Rivers Council, BSA. She worked diligently at the unit and district level, eventually rising to Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) in the Schenectady District. In recognition of her service to Scouting, she received the Award of Merit (2003), the first-ever Schenectady District Special Commissioner Award (2007), Distinguished Commissioner Award, Arrowhead, Commissioner's Key, recognitions from units she served, and recognition from the Commissioner's College in Syracuse.
Lois is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mark L. Johnson of St. Paul, MN and Colonie, NY and by their three sons and spouses and five grandchildren: Mark II and Silvia of Berlin, Germany, and Ebba and Oona; Larry A. and Cathy of Columbia, SC; and Christopher D. and Helen of Kristiansund, Norway, and Camilla, Kristoffer and Andrine. Lois and Mark had no brothers or sisters, but Lois is survived by her aunt, Lillian Skarka, and various cousins and relatives in the Capital District and elsewhere.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Loudonville, followed by burial at Memory's Garden in Colonie.
