Lois Sankey

Our dear mother, Lois Sankey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the age of 90 at home surrounded by the love of her family.

Lois truly had a heart of gold with enough love to extend to everyone she crossed paths with. She was the standard of what a great mother is, what she was taught, and how to pour and impart wisdom especially into her family that transcends time. A legacy that she has left us all

Raised in Ramer, Alabama, the youngest daughter of the late Loretta and Calvin Ashley, Lois learned at an early age the importance of opportunities, haven't been afforded so little of them when she was a little girl. Her message was to never turn your back on an opportunity to better yourself because you may never know what could become of it. She was a dedicated nurses aide and press operator before she retired in 1996. A trait she definitely passed on to her children.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Lee Sankey Sr., two beautiful daughters, LaVerne and Diane; sons, James Berry, Curtis, Timothy and Scottie (LaTonya) Sankey. Lois is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as her treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her son Henry Jr. and her siblings, Roosevelt, EL, Vera, Perry, Ethel and Calvin Jr.

Visiting hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals - Latham Chapel, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Friday March 29, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 11:30 am; followed by a procession to Graveside service at Elmwood Hill Cemetery Association, Troy, New York
