GUILDERLAND – Lorraine Alice (Smith) Horstman died on Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Trenton, NJ on June 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Marion Smith. She grew up in the Ellenville area prior to moving to Newburgh where she met Dick. They married in 1954 and settled in Middletown, NY where Dick was a Resident Adjuster for Travelers Insurance. Later, they relocated to Clifton Park and eventually to Guilderland. Lorraine enjoyed her career in cosmetics and was especially proud of her accomplishments with the Persciptives Line for Macy's in Colonie Center. Her passions were singing, sewing, decorating her homes and spending time with her family. She was a member of McKownville United Methodist Church where she loved being in the choir, organizing coffee hours, visiting her friends and getting hugs from Pastor Steve. Her colorful personality will be missed by all, especially her friends and the 6B staff at Teresian House. Lorraine is survived by the love of her life and husband of almost 58 years, Harold R. "Dick" Hortsman. She is the devoted mother of H. Kirk (Patricia Giordano) Horstman of N. Wales, PA, Cindy (Edward) Joslin of Syracuse, NY, Julie (Daniel) Tidd of Guilderland, NY and Carole (Jeffrey) Dooley of Valatie, NY. She is the cherished grandmother of Laurel (Jason) Clapper, Bethany Horstman, Kimberly Horstman, Adam Joslin, Matthew Joslin and Cassandra Tidd. She is the loving great-grandmother of Charlotte Clapper. Also surviving are her beloved sisters, brother-in-laws, brother, sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the McKownville United Methodist Church, 1565 Western Ave, Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services will follow at the church at 4:00 p.m. A memorial service and interment in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at a date to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Lorraine A. Smith.
