Albany~
Lorraine T. Schaf, 85, of Albany, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
Lorraine was the daughter of the late Stephen and Caroline (Slezack) Tomczak, and the devoted wife to the late William V. Schaf. Bill and Lorraine were married 54 years.
She was born in Albany on March 20, 1932 and raised in Colonie. Lorraine lived in the Capital District most of her life and briefly in Arizona, returning to the area in 1997. She received her education locally in the former one-room Karner School House, the Maywood Middle School and Albany High School graduating class of 1951.
Mrs. Schaf was employed as a secretary for Siena College, A & P Markets, and later the State of New York in the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and lastly retiring in 1995 from the Dept. of Environmental Conservation, both in Albany.
Lorraine was formerly a communicant of Christ the King and the Church of St. Clare both in the Albany areas.
Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her family and her passions were gardening, sewing, painting and drawing. Downhill skiing and tennis were her favorite sports in her youth.
In addition to her hobbies, Lorraine enjoyed cooking for her family and bringing everyone together for the holidays was special.
Lorraine is survived her children; William Schaf, Jr. of Florida, Kathleen (Michael) Murtagh of Glenville, John (Roberta) Schaf of Hamburg, NY, her grandchildren; Corey Schaf of Buffalo, Tyler Schaf of Cheektowaga and Liam Murtagh of Glenville. Also survived by her sister Alice DiBiase and her children Joan and Steve, who were special to Lorraine.
Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband William, her siblings; George, Frank, Walter, Genevieve, Annie and Carol.
A funeral service will be held from New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, at 12 Noon on Thursday September 21, 2017. Calling hours will be precede the service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in St. Agnes' Cemetery, Menands.
