Louis W. Ashburn, 72, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, December 3, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 31, 1947 in Albany to the late Louis and Beatrice (Thompson) Ashburn.

Raised in Colonie, he attended Hudson Valley Community College then served in the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1973. He retired from the New York State Office of General Services in 2013. Lou was a kind soul, who had a love of laughter, fun and music. One of his best qualities was helping people out. His passing is a true loss for all who knew and loved him.

Lou was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Paul (Linda) Ashburn.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, George, Mary (Clarence) Ballou, Ulysses (Helen), Esther, Marion Christian, Daniel (Karen), Ervin (Judy), and Robert (Jomary), as well as 2 uncles, Raymond (Marion) and Walter (Helen) Thompson; aunts, Aroma and Martha Ann Thompson and the following nieces and nephews, Lisa, Ulysses and Shannon Ashburn, Angela Warren, Tyrone and George Christian, Clarice Jones, Vanessa Solomon, Samara Grantham, Ruth Olivares, Alyssa, Karly Warren, SaPrina, Aaron, Andre, Danielle, Paul and Mary Ashburn. Many cousins and many good friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 10:00-11:30 am. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 am. Interment will immediately follow. Gathering size within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.

Donations may be made in Louis' memory to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 63 Mountain View Ave, Albany, NY 12205.
