After discharge, Lou finished his education at Nott Terrace High School, and became a union bricklayer and mason with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #2, working for several construction companies over his 35 years. He retired in 1988, to enjoy his grandchildren, cooking and working around his house (and sometimes other's).
