COLONIE-Louis R. DiGiulio, age 94, passed peacefully on November 20, 2018 at the Eddy Village Green surrounded by family. He was the widower of Jeanne Dorey DiGiulio, whom they shared many years of marriage. Louis was predeceased by his two loving grandchildren: Phillip Schelhaus and Jessica Welch.
He was born in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Domenic and Josephine DiGiulio. He received his Master's degree in Education from Niagara University. Louis retired from the NYS Department of Education. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving in the 1st Army in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
He was an active member of the Catholic community, the Knights of Columbus and Rotary. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid music and dance lover, playing both the piano and bass fiddle. Louis was a music teacher and director, participating in many musical clubs. In his spare time he was a HAM-Radio operator.
He will be remembered for his infectious smile, charming personality, but most of all for being a loving father and doting grandfather.
He is survived by his three children: Karen Dowell, Richard (Theresa) DiGiulio and Laurie Maloney; grandchildren: Joelle (Mike) Hayden, Warren Schelhaus, Lynne Warner, Elizabeth Noland, Jennifer (John) Buck and Melissa (Jeff) Parker; and 13 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 27 at 11 am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11. Interment will be at Saratoga National Cemetery.
