Louis E. Emerick

Colonie – Louis E. Emerick, 86, passed away on August 31, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany, NY and was the son of the late Louis and Florence Emerick.

He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School, the University of Notre Dame (B.S.) and Siena College (M.S.). Lou received the Bill Stern Award in 1948 as Albany's Athlete of the Year. He received a full football scholarship to Notre Dame where he played before being injured. After college, Lou spent two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Lou was a teacher, coach and administrator in the Albany School District for many years before retiring in 1995.

Lou was the widower of Joan Higgins Emerick, who passed away in 1980. He is survived by five children, Lisa Parker of Florida, Avis Haynes of Colonie, Jo-Ann Emerick Holst of Colorado, Victoria Rabadi of Guilderland, and Eric Emerick of Florida. Lou is also survived by nine wonderful grandchildren and three beautiful great granddaughters.

A Gathering for Louis will be held at New Comer Funeral Home on September 24 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Memorial Service to immediately follow at 7:00 pm.
