COLONIE, NY - Dr. Louis Maganzin, 90, of Colonie, NY died April 22, 2024 at the Loudonville Assisted Living in Colonie. He was born January 14, 1934 at Trenton, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Louis & Afra Caola Maganzin. He spent his youth in Trenton graduating from Trenton Catholic Boy's High School.
He was awarded a bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University, Olean, New York, graduating with distinction. He earned his master and doctorate degrees from Georgetown University, Washington, D. C., where he was a teaching fellow.
Dr. Maganzin joined the faculty of Misericordia University, Dallas, Pennsylvania in 1961 where he served as professor of history, chair of the history-góvernment department and director of liberal studies until his election to the chairmanship of the humanities division, a position which he held until retirement.
During his tenure at Misericordia, he won the outstanding teacher of the year award numerous times. Dr. Maganzin served on and chaired many committees during his teaching and administrative career and was honored in 1988 with the Board of Trustees Associates Award for significant dedication, service and leadership to the University and the Community.
Upon retirement in 1996, the Board of Trustees named him Professor Emeritus.
Dr. Maganzin was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Arthur and infant twin, Louis Eugene.
He is survived by nephew Thomas Maganzin; a grand niece, Stefanie and grand nephews, Samuel and Michael Magazin of New Jersey. He is also survived by cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Latham, NY. Committal will immediately follow at Evergreeen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Ave, Schenectady, NY.
