GUILDERLAND – Louise B. Nunez, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Louise was born on November 2, 1922 in New Orleans, LA and was raised in Jacksonville, FL. She was the daughter of the late George and Nellie (Gilly) Brennan and sister of the late Shirley David. She married Edison J. Nunez, Jr., her middle school sweetheart, on May 3, 1942. An early career as a legal secretary was halted on the birth of the first of four children. From that point on the several family relocations, including overseas, presented challenges that she met with all the energies needed of a loving wife, mom and homemaker.
The travels also provided opportunity for volunteer work in scouting, Welcome Wagon, nursing home visitations, hospitals (Seoul, Korea) and the Association of the Blind (St. Georges, Granada). She was an excellent seamstress and took special pleasure in creating novelty items for her small ones and later arriving grandchildren. She was an ardent reader of history and Barbara Courtland. As an "amateur" bowler, she once received a "Slowest Bowler" award. She was a member of St. Madeleine Sophie Roman Catholic Church.
Louise is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Edison J. Nunez, Jr.; her loving children, Diane N. (the late Michael) Wachtel, Cynthia N. (Arthur) Rohlfs, Edison J. (Patricia) Nunez III, and James B. Nunez; her ten loving grandchildren, Alison, Michael (Lynn), Elizabeth (Leon), Christopher (Robin), Timothy (Linda), Lisa (Craig), Lori, John, Kevin, and Brian; and many cherished great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff on the Guadalupe Unit at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their kindness and loving care they provided for Louise.
