It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Lucian Thomas Garda, aged 93, on December 21, 2024.
Born in Taunton, MA on January 23, 1931, Lucian was the son of Lidia DeMarco and Giuseppe Garda from Italy and the beloved brother of Aldo Garda, previously deceased.
A proud graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1953, Lucian went on to have a distinguished career, from which he derived tremendous satisfaction, as an electrical engineer at Sperry Gyroscope, a division of the Sperry Rand Corporation in Lake Success, NY for 42 years.
Among his many hobbies, Lucian was a highly skilled woodworking enthusiast and created exceptionally high-quality, handcrafted pieces including custom desks, elegant dictionary stands and beautiful library stairs. He was also a talented musician, playing the mandolin in the Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra. Additionally, he volunteered his time at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville, NY where he contributed to rebuilding the "Priscilla", Long Island's oldest surviving oyster sloop.
Lucian and Anne moved from Westbury NY, where they lived for 63 years, to Guilderland, NY in 2024 where he enjoyed the beautiful views from his balcony, playing table shuffleboard with his new friends and holding hands with his wife.
Lucian was a good and proud father to his four beautiful daughters, Dianne Garda, Donna Mongiardo, Linda Fox, and Lisa Hulbert, and he had 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Of all Lucian's life's accomplishments and passions, his greatest love was his best friend and wife of 64 years, Anne Schemer, whom he married on September 4, 1960. He is survived by his loving wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, son-in-law's, Ross, Terry and Dan, two nieces, a sister in law, and his favorite brother-in-law, Martin Schemer. He will be missed by all who loved him.
