ALBANY - Lucy Mary (DiDio) Van Bergen of Albany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at St Peter's Hospital. Lucy was born in Albany, NY on September 6, 1921 along with her twin brother Emanuel "Sonny" DeDeo who pre-deceased her. She was born to the late Donato "Dan" DiDio and Grace (Pietrocola) DiDio. Lucy was the beloved wife and soul-mate of the late William B. Van Bergen.
Lucy will forever be remembered by her cherished daughter Donna M. Whalen (Charles), her beloved grandchildren Daniel T. Webster, (Kelly), Tracy M. Webster, Stephanie A. Webster and her treasured great-grandson Micah D. Webster-Stewart of Albany, her loving sister Esther Orlando of Woodcliff Cliff, New Jersey and devoted brother Louis DiDio of Albany, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know her.
At the age of twelve, Lucy met her future husband Bill, with whom she shared a lifelong romance. Lucy was a hard-worker who held numerous jobs from sewing baseballs to assembling weapons at the Watervliet Arsenal during WWII. Lucy, known affectionately by her family as "Grams," was dedicated to her family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her loved ones and in the last years of her life delighted in her great-grandson Micah, who gave her immeasurable joy. Lucy touched the lives of many people with her sweet smile and jovial personality. She will be greatly missed.
Friends and family may visit from 4 - 7 pm on Wednesday, March 28th at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 29th at 10 am at the funeral home. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont where Lucy will be buried beside her beloved husband.
