TROY, NY – On Friday, November 11, 2011, after standing in the midst of a courageously hard and long battle with cancer and surrounded by his loving family, Luther A. Moore entered into eternal rest. Luther, son of Mae Frances Moore and the late Willie Udell Franklin, was born in Greeleyville, SC on February 14, 1951. Luther attended and graduated from C.E. Murray High School in Greeleyville, SC . For many years, Luther was a long-distance truck driver, boasting that he had driven in every state except one, Oklahoma. In addition to the special relationship he had with his family, Luther loved fishing and was an avid bowler. Luther was quite a story teller and enjoyed sharing a good story with family and friends. Luther will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help any and every one. Luther leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Doreen Gardner Moore; his children, Tyler and Najhea Moore and LaNea D. Reed of Troy, Lakeshia (Gregory) Vincent of Colonie, Lashinskey (Kelly) Keels of Troy and Travis and Demetris "Carlos" Keels of Manning, SC; his sisters, Alice Franklin of Detroit, MI, Lori Anne (Daryl) Cannon, Carrie Ann Turner and Jennifer Franklin of Troy; his brothers, Phillip and Tommy Franklin of Troy; his sister-in-law, and caregiver, Berdell Gardner of Troy; brothers-in-law, Elder Herbert Robinson of Milwaukee, WI, Marvin (Ethel) Gardner and Alvin Gardner of Troy. Also surviving are seven grandchildren along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Luther was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Fannie and SP Keels, his brother Buxie Keels and his sisters, Betty Ruth Franklin, Elizabeth Franklin and Ruby Edwards.
A Service of Victory will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Ave., Troy, NY. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
