Lydia Vergie Stewart passed away on August 22, 2015 at Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Valatie, NY.
Born on February 5, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, Lydia came to NY when she was 18. She settled in Bronx, NY where she raised her family.
In 1982, she moved to Hyde Park, where she helped raise her three grand daughters; Alema, Sanaya and Alayja Stewart, who survive her. She was employed at IBM in Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1992.
Lydia was energetic and youthful, well into her later years. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was a constant source of strength, wisdom, love and support for those close to her.
In addition to her grand daughters, Lydia is survived by her son, Anthony Stewart and great grand daughter Linda Atkinson, as well as many other loving relatives in South Carolina and close friends.
Lydia was predeceased by her daughter Linda Stewart and son Harley Stewart.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Garland Funeral Home in Albany, NY.
