Clifton Park--- Lyle W. DeVoe, 92 of Clifton Park died suddenly on November 11, 2008 at his home. Born in East Greenbush on September 16, 1916, Lyle was a lifelong resident of the Capital District. He was the son of the late Carlyle C. DeVoe and Emma Rose (Place) DeVoe.
Lyle's long life was one of exceptional health and many happy memories. He is fondly remembered by family and friends as a man of quick humor, eternal optimism, and boundless energy. Throughout his career in sales and sales management, he made his customers his friends and he never veered from the course of work that he knew would lead to the "next big deal" just around the corner. In his retirement years, his interests and activities just continued to expand. His love of the outdoors centered around his lifelong commitment to the Great Sacandaga Lake and the Adirondacks. He was an avid train enthusiast and built a truly remarkable model railroad to which he devoted much time (and space). His love for his pets, including the many squirrels that visited every day, was only exceeded by his love for family and friends.
Lyle was married to his childhood sweetheart Eleanor E. (Carty) DeVoe until her passing in 1974. He is survived by their children, Sandra E. (Richard "Skip") Vigars, Charles C. (Ann) DeVoe, and Lynne D. (Jack) Sussman III, all residing in the Capital District area. He is also survived by his grandchildren John R. (Nan) Vigars of Stratham, New Hampshire, Sharon L. (Ken) Green of Scotia, New York, Christine A. (Rodger) Moore of Schenectady, New York, Jack R. Sussman of Colonie New York, Tracy E. Sussman of Loudonville, New York, Michelle M. (Jon) Furches of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Craig C. (Sarah) DeVoe of Loudonville, New York. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was also married to Lillian J. (Collins) DeVoe until her passing in 2007.
The family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding care and compassion provided by his primary caregivers Tracy Minor and Kim Corbett and to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Karen Michelina for her kindness and timely support.
