Albany- Lynn Cooke Gasorowski, 60, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home on November 13, 2016. The daughter of the late Donald and Frances (Downey) Cooke, Lynn was born on May 10, 1956 in Albany, NY.
She graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1974 and then received her Associates Degree from Empire State College. She had a career working with healthcare insurance benefits. She was a volunteer for Colonie EMS for several years.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 42, Lynn became heavily involved in advocating awareness for breast cancer detection and research. Lynn was an avid crafter and jewelry designer. Her quilts and hand-made memory books were enjoyed by many. In her free time, Lynn enjoyed traveling, with the Caribbean being her favorite destination. She had a great love for her two Maltese, Josie and Odie.
Lynn was devoted to her children, Jason Gasorowski and Carrie Hawron and shared a special bond with her granddaughter, Stella Rose Hawron. She is survived by her fiancé, Steven F. Brown; her siblings: James (Kathy) Cooke, Donald (Anne) Cooke, Joanne (Michael) Maguire, William (Martha) Cooke and Robert (Sherry) Cooke; her close friend Karen Papa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Stephen F. Gasorowski and her brother Barry Cooke.
Lynn's family wishes to express their gratitude to, Dr. Beth Overmoyer of Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, the staff of Community Hospice and countless family and friends for their loving and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15 from 3pm to 7 pm, at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 10 am at the funeral home.
