NISKAYUNA – M. Barbara Montanye passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
She was born in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Polch Montanye. Barbara worked at the General Electric Company for several years until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, reading and having dinner with friends. When her nieces and nephews were small, she especially enjoyed Christmas time when she showered them with the nosiest toys available.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the dedicated caregivers at Riveridge Nursing Home and St. Mary's Hospital, in Amsterdam.
Barbara is survived by her sister in law Dorothy Montanye; her nephews, David Montanye and his sons, Robert Michael, Daniel and Peter; Douglas Montanye and his son Stephen; her niece Deborah Altrock and her daughters Amanda and Sara. Barbara was predeceased by her siblings, Robert, Donald and Jean.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 8:15 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to St. Paul the Apostle Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010 in memory of M. Barbara Montanye.
