ALBANY- M. Dorothy "Ditty" McDowell, 94 passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Jane (Scott) McDowell. Ditty graduated from Nyack College earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was an active member of Pineview Community Church; where she taught Sunday school and played the organ for Sunday services. Ditty retired from the New York State Department of Transportation after many years of service. She put a lot of thought and time into holiday gift giving for her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was well known for her sense of humor. Ditty loved her family, including her great nephews Zack "the middle one" and Jake "the sly one" but had a special bond with Greg "the brain".
Ditty is survived by her nieces and nephews Robert (Lissa) McDowell, Carolyn (Richard Owens) Taylor, Andrea (Larry) Nash, and Marc (Laura) Mattiske and great nieces and nephews Rachael Welsh, Kristin Zeto, Andrew Snyder and Alison Taylor Jayne. She is also survived by her great great nieces and nephews and first cousins Harry Balmer and Anna Holtz.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Pineview Community Church, 251 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pineview Community Church, Children's Activities, 251 Washington Ave. Ext. Albany, NY in memory of Dorothy.
