M. Richard Solomon, 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11th, 2012 after a long battle with several health issues. Richard was born in the Albany area to the late Seymour and Eugenia Solomon and resided most of his life in various parts of the Capital region. Best known for being the owner and manager of the Albany based retail stores, M. Solomon Furs, which was a well known establishment for over 100 years and originally started by his grandfather. Richard worked alongside his best friend and wife, Michaele Joyce Solomon until closing the doors at M. Solomon in 1997. Richard then used his business background as the Vice-President at New York State Higher Education Corporation. Richard will be remembered as a generous manager who was enthusiastic about his work and cared about his employees. Richard retired in 2008. Richard was always a travel enthusiast and enjoyed many summers on Nantucket with his family.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife, Michaele Joyce Solomon and his brother, former Congressional Representative Gerald B. H. Solomon, both of whom Richard dearly loved. Richard is survived by his son Christopher (Erika) Solomon and daughter Sandy (Philip) Rolfe and is the proud grandfather of two granddaughters. He is also survived by many family members and friends.
A cemetery service will be held at Beth Emeth Cemetery off Schuyler Rd in Loudonville NY, on Tuesday August 14th at 2 pm.
