ALBANY - Mable Lee Steele Riddick, 78, of Menands died on August 24, 2010 at Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Her beloved husband, Fowler Riddick, died on August 6, 2010.
Mable was born in Providence Township, North Carolina, to the late Mable Dunn Steele and Lewis Steele. She spent her youth in Newport, Rhode Island and upon graduation from high school worked for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. She married Fowler in 1970 and they moved to Albany, New York. In 1984 Mable took the position of Diocesan Receptionist at the Episcopal Diocese of Albany where she brightened the day of all who called or entered the building. Her pleasant personality and caring manner were known to all who knew her and she will be missed greatly by her friends, many of whom cared for her in the last years of her life.
While employed at the Diocese, she graduated from Bryant and Stratton College in Albany, NY. She was proud of that accomplishment which came late in her life. Her discipline and commitment allowed her reach that goal.
Mable served as an Elder at First Church in Albany
She is survived by nieces and a Godson. In addition to her parents and husband, Mable was predeceased by her sister Vernell.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 17th at 1pm at the First Church in Albany, NY. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.
