SCHENECTADY- Madeleine Elizabeth Abercrombie passed away peacefully at home on February 21 at 94 years of age, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born December 6, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to James Peter Devlin and Marion Josephine Francis (Osborne) Devlin.
Madeleine was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Les Abercrombie Jr., and her brother James J. Devlin. She is survived by her children Mary Iris (Sim Komisar), Les III (Andrea Anastas), Anne (Brian Jubrey) and Colleen (Tim Castle); grandchildren Ian Jones (Kori Lugar), Lindsay Carnevale (Drew), Kelly Jones, Les Abercrombie IV, Alexandra Abercrombie, Christina Abercrombie, John Abercrombie, Kayla Bellair-Sardos (John), Madeleine Castle and Samantha Castle; great-granddaughter Mavella Carnevale, sister Therese Giana and nephews Andrew Giana, James Devlin, John Devlin and niece Jacqueline (Devlin) Coon.
Madeleine graduated from Middleburgh HS in 1948 and the Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Claire's hospital for 35 years and was known to all as a loving and caring person who always helped others in need. She was active in the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, the girl scouts and in fund raising for charitable causes. Devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother, Madeleine also was an avid bridge player with a fun-loving nurses group and lived her life with an irrepressible spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Monday February 26, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 1803 Union Street, Niskayuna, NY 12309. All are invited to attend her funeral Mass following at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.
In lieu of flowers and in observance of the Lenten Season, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish and Community Hospice.
