Maeona Parsons Wakeman
July 19, 1919 — January 10, 2014
LATHAM - Maeona Parsons Wakeman of Latham, NY passed away on January 10, 2014 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.
Maeona was born in Sumner, Texas, a daughter of Oner P. Parsons and Gertie Mae Allison Parsons and raised in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Maeona received her Bachelors Degree from Southeastern University in Durant, OK and began her graduate studies at Oklahoma State. She began teaching home economics, a career that would continue for the next thirty years. She completed her Master's Degree and teaching requirements at SUNY Oneonta and taught in the Troy School District for 27 years.
She was very talented in sewing, quilting, gardening, canning and cooking. She made over eighteen completely hand-stitched quilts for her family, including one for each grandchild.
Maeona was predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence, on October 8, 1984. She is survived by her three sons, Al (Mary Elizabeth) of Albany, NY, Dr. Gary (Dolores) and Richard (Anne Marie) Wakeman of Saratoga Springs, NY, and 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen Ruth Hammond of Arlington, TX and Mabern Bailey of District Heights, MD, and brother Lloyd Parsons of Hugo, OK. A sister, Fay Williams, and brothers, Allison and Frank Parsons predeceased her.
Her family would like to thank the staff of 2 Springs at Wesley Health Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of Maeona during her time there.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. At Maeona's request, funeral arrangements will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Maeona's name to the Wesley Health Care Center, 131 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
