Maj. H. Lucas

Latham- Maj. Robert H. Lucas of Latham, NY, U.S. Army retiree and former local optician passed away unexpectedly at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany on Monday, March 20, 2017. Robert was the son of the late Lt. Col. Wendell S. Lucas and Mary Johnston Lucas of Tampa, FL.

He was born March 30, 1930 at Fort Totten Army Hospital in Queens, NY. He attended the University of Utah, then entered the army. He served in Korea shortly after the Korean War and served also in Germany. He served two tours in Viet Nam. Among his military decorations were the Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, and two Bronze Stars. After his retirement from the army he resumed his education at Erie Community College in Buffalo to become an optician and practiced that profession for many years at several firms in the Albany area.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Reynolds Lucas of Latham, his son, Mark Reynolds Lucas of Cohoes, NY, his brother, Hal R. Lucas and wife Blair of Tampa, FL, his sister, Wanda I. Wilson and husband Myron of Topeka, KS, two nieces and a nephew.

His remains will be interred at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the spring.
