DELMAR - Marcia F. Roth, 66, passed away on April 6, 2011 in her home in Delmar, NY with her family at her side, after battling triple negative breast cancer.
Marcia was born in Mineola, NY to her parents Laurence and Catherine Roth, and was raised in Batavia, NY. Marcia graduated from Drew University in 1967, and received her MPA from Rockefeller College at SUNY Albany in 1970. Marcia work for the NYS Division of the Budget for 32 years until she retired in 2002.
Upon retiring she did anything but retire. At the age of 57 she began attending Albany Law School. After taking a year off to fight and defeat cancer, she returned to school where, in spite of many challenges, she received her J.D. in 2006 and was awarded the Isabelle Redman Prize.
Marcia has dedicated her life to advocating for the right of developmentally disabled individuals to live full and satisfying lives within their home and community. As a parent, Marcia has advocated for 28 years on behalf of her son to get inclusive services from his school district, and home residential habilitation services. She has served on various committees, given testimony to the NYS Legislature, and most recently lobbied for a NYS Autism Health Insurance bill.
Marcia was survived by her husband of 31 years, Kenneth Caffrey, her sons Kevin and Kyle, her mother Catherine Roth, her brother Laurence Roth, Jr., her aunts Grace Haddad, Marguerite Miller, and Frances Hornberger, and her beloved Lhasa Apsos Boodah, and Chyna. She was predeceased by her father Laurence Roth, and her brother James Roth.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt 155-south of Central Ave).
