Altamont- Marcia H. Perlee, 89, passed away April 19, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Isaac and Alma Stevens Hungerford, Mrs. Perlee lived most of her life in Altamont. She attended Altamont High School and the State University at Plattsburg. In 1948 she married Gordon E. Perlee, Jr. and with him shared a love that inspired all who knew them. She was the mother of six children, grandmother to 16, great-grandmother to 8 and a friend to all she met.
Mrs. Perlee's home was always a center of warmth, good cheer and love. She loved spending time at her family homes in Florida and in the Adirondacks. She cared deeply about her beloved community of Altamont. She was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, founder of Hungerford Market, a member of the Altamont PTA, Altamont Garden Club, the Guilderland Zoning Board and a Director of the Albany Guardian Society.
Marcia was a tireless worker in all that she did, but her family was her unending focus. In her final hours her grandchildren traveled from three continents to be with her, reflecting the love and devotion that she shared in such abundance.
She is survived by Gordon, her husband of 69 years; her sisters Jean Krull of Altamont, Margaret Ackley of Kansas City and Barbara Leahy of Summerfield Florida; her children Gordon E. Perlee III (Erin) of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; David B. Perlee (Kathy) of Englewood, Florida, Lisa Puvogel (Stephen) of Kinderhook; Jeffrey S. Perlee of Altamont and Suzanne Hale (Kevin) also of Altamont. Her son Brian H. Perlee (Donna) pre-deceased her and greeted his Mom in heaven.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, Maple Ave. Altamont. All are welcome. Donations in Marcia's memory may be made to Altamont Free Library, 179 Main Street Altamont, NY 12009.
