Blais, Margaret S. WEST SAND LAKE Margaret S. Blais, 80, loving wife and mother and devoted friend, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 9, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born in Hempstead, N.Y. the daughter of the late Margaret (Cassidy) and Joseph Smith. As a young woman she worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years, and then as a secretary for Diamond Spring Water later in life. Margaret loved gardening and, along with most of her family, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 58 years, Roland Blais; three children, Deborah Blais Cavanaugh, Christopher (Robin) Blais and Katherine Alice Blais; four grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Austin Cavanaugh and Connor Blais; three great-grandchildren, Taran Shaefer, Tabitha Cavanaugh and Ethan Cavanaugh; brother George W. Smith of N.C.; and her best friend, Alice Kirstein. A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at East Ridge Community Church (the former Sand Lake Elementary School), 2910 NY 43, Averill Park, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 Attn.: Contribution Services.
