NORTH GREENBUSH, NY – Margaret E. McGrail (Reat), 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. Born in Black River, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Gifford. She was a data entry operator for the New York State Department of Health until her illness. Reat enjoyed crocheting and word search puzzles. She especially loved camping and spending time with her family. She is the beloved mother of Michael McGrail Jr., Tina (Dennis) Stephens, Charles (Lisa DiDonna) McGrail, Tammy (Haley Smith) McGrail, Kathleen (Donald) Roy and Lisa McGrail. Reat is the loving sister of Betty Tompkins, Joan Gifford and the late Kenneth, Raymond and Albert Gifford, Mildred Babcock and her twin brother, Marvin Gifford. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret's family would like to thank the Eddy V.N.A. and Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home for all of the kindness and care they gave to her. A special thank you to the West Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. and Sand Lake Volunteer Ambulance for all of their assistance over the years. Margaret and her family also appreciate the constant support and assistance of Imelda "Mel" Schwartz from Brookside Senior Housing.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Margaret will be laid to rest in East Pittstown Cemetery this summer with her twin brother, Marvin. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the West Sand Lake Fire Dept., 3671 NY 43, West Sand Lake, NY 12196 or the Sand Lake Volunteer Ambulance, 3643 NY RT 43, West Sand Lake, NY 12196 in memory of Margaret E. McGrail.
