Margaret A. Fay

August 23, 1941 — June 5, 2023

LATHAM -
Fay, Margaret A. "Peggy", 81,who was beloved by many, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 23, 1941 in Newark, NJ to Philip and Alice Tevlin and though she was named Margaret, she went by Peggy all her life. Peggy grew up with her Irish heritage among the most important influences in her life, as both of her parents had left Ireland as young adults and moved to NJ.

Peggy graduated from Mount Saint Dominic Academy and then joined the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell where she became a teacher, formed life-long friendships, and was able to channel her incredible ability to show compassion, love, and empathy to those around her. She was passionate about teaching and supporting children and taught at various schools in NJ where she was celebrated for her gift of connecting with children. Peggy also spent two years teaching at St. Francis de Sales school in Abaco, Bahamas which proved to be one of the most important and influential experiences of her life.

Peggy left the community after 16 years and married Ken Fay (who passed away on December 22, 2022 after nearly 47 years of marriage). Peggy and Ken had three children whom they raised outside of Binghamton, NY. Peggy continued teaching in various schools in NY and especially enjoyed teaching in programs that supported students with disabilities. She later led the religious education program at St. Margaret Mary's Church for many years before retiring.

Peggy and Ken retired to Florida where they spent 16 years loving being so close to the ocean and traveling the world. Anyone who knew Peggy knew her to be a kind, loving, and generous person. She crocheted hundreds, perhaps thousands of scarves for children in need, and would bake bread or deliver meals to friends, family members, and neighbors during difficult times. She was loving, encouraging, always up for a good laugh, and looking to offer support to those around her.

For those who knew Peggy and Ken, and understood their bond of 47 years, it is not altogether surprising that they passed so close to one another. Their relationship was a true love story and an inspiration to all those who loved them.

Peggy is survived by her son Ken; her daughters Meghan and Kathleen ; her daughter-in law, Erin; sons-in-law, Max and Brad; her grandchildren whom she adored, Connor, Andrew, Claire, Maggie and her grandpup Rusty.

Peggy's legacy of love, kindness, and laughter, as well as the amazing relationship she shared with her husband, will live on through her children, grandchildren, and dear friends. She will be deeply missed.

Services for Peggy will be private. Those looking to honor Peggy's exceptional life can do so by making donations to Every Child Counts or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The family will forever be grateful for the support and encouragement from Community Hospice in Albany, NY.
