Rensselaer- Margaret Helen Valyou Cook, 73, passed away on Wednesday May 14, 2007 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Margaret Helen Cook started her state career working for the NYS Insurance Department. She then went on to work for the NYS Department of Audit and Control for many years and retired in September of 1990.
After retirement she spent several years camping and traveling with her husband Richard. She also volunteered at Albany Memorial Hospital. She always had the desire to help people in any way that she could.
She was known as Margie to all that knew and loved her and belonged to the Troy Elks Lodge # 141 Ladies Auxiliary and had served as the auxiliary president for 3 years and most recently served as auxiliary vice president for 3 years. Margie enjoyed playing the slot machines at various casino's and going to bingo weekly to spend time with her friends. She also very much enjoyed spending many hours with her granddaughter Amanda.
She is survived by her husband Richard D Cook Sr of Rensselaer, daughter Cynthia A (Valyou) Lapoint of Guilderland, granddaughter, Amanda Clarice Lapoint and step-sons, Michael (Carol) Cook of Selkirk and Richard D Cook Jr of Watervliet. She is the sister of Mary (Chickie) (Carazza) Rolfe, Helen (James) Carll and Dennis (Cathy) Carazza. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Margie is pre-deceased by her Father, Joseph (Happy) J Carazza Sr, Mother, Amelia Anne (Smith) Carazza, and her brother Joseph J Carazza Jr.
Margie will be lovingly missed by all that knew her.
Margie's family would like to deeply thank the doctors and nurses of the Critical Care Unit and the Operating Room staff of Albany Memorial Hospital for their tender, attentive care for both Margie and the family during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 9:00 at Historic St. Mary's Church on Capital Hill where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
