Albany - Margaret (Keown) Prevost passed away peacefully on April 26, 2012 after a brief illness. Born April 18, 1935 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late James and Joan (O'Brien) Keown. A 1956 graduate of LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY and Jordan High School, Marge provided a lifetime of service. She served as president of the Fayetteville-Manlius Board of Education and was active in the New York State Democratic Party. She held several positions in the New York State Department of Health, including Administrative Director of the Environmental Lab Approval Program, and Assistant Director of the Division of Epidemiology.
Marge displayed great optimism throughout her life. She enjoyed raising her family in Syracuse and spending time in the Adirondack Mountains and the seashore. She enjoyed reading and engaging in spirited debates on politics, embracing her Irish heritage.
Marge was the proud and loving mother of James (Kathy) of Cincinnati Ohio, Michael (Carol) of Lake Placid, New York, and Julie of Austin, Texas and beloved grandmother of Jeffrey and Kristen. She is also survived by her sister JoAnn Warner of Beaverton, Oregon and many nieces and nephews. She was married to the late James A. Prevost M.D. for 26 years.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville, NY. A calling hour will precede the Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordon, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy or the American Cancer Society in memory of Margaret M. Prevost.
